Haringey Council celebrates 100 moves through Homefinder UK

10/06/2022
Congratulations Haringey Council

We're delighted to announce Haringey Council is the latest member to have successfully rehoused over 100 homeseekers into permanent social housing via Homefinder UK!

Haringey has been a member since 2016 and now joins the 100's Club with IslingtonBarking & Dagenham and Lewisham councils. As highlighted in their housing strategy, they aim to improve support and help prevent homelessness, drive up the quality of housing for all residents, and ensure that housing delivers more comprehensive community benefits.

Homefinder UK is proud to continue helping the council provide a fresh start for many households, some of whom were stuck in temporary accommodation, sofa surfing, fleeing domestic abuse, overcrowded or threatened with eviction from a private landlord. Peter Ledger, Move On Officer for Haringey, says:

"The chance to offer social housing outside London is a real asset, and many who moved stated that, while it was a massive change, the results were better housing, less densely populated than London and affordable. This would not happen without the professional service offered by Homefinder UK from their helpful and friendly staff. It's a pleasure to be part of his life changing partnership."

Case Study: Mr AD – Moving on from unliveable temporary accommodation conditions

Mr AD, his pregnant wife and young daughter lived in poor temporary accommodation conditions due to structural issues and mould covering the walls. With Mr AD's wife due to give birth soon, the midwife expressed her concern about raising the baby in an environment with mould spores. At the time, Mr AD was waiting for a two-bed house to become available, but after his wife had the baby, the midwife insisted he finds alternative accommodation.

Thankfully, the family was referred to Homefinder UK by Haringey, and a two-bed house became available. Homefinder UK and Haringey Council worked together to ensure viewing and sign-up took place, even during the lockdown period. As a result, Mr AD and his family are living happily in their new home:

"We are happy to have moved out of our previous accommodation. We are thankful to the Homefinder UK team." – Mr AD.
