A guide to living in Telford

 

Telford is the largest town in Shropshire, and one of the fastest-growing towns in the United Kingdom. It sits about 13 miles east of Shrewsbury and 30 miles north west of Birmingham. Telford is well-loved for its extensive shopping centre, Southwater, and its stunning 450-acre Town Park. Living in Telford, you will enjoy thriving town life as well as beautiful nature.

Getting around Telford  

With regular trains to Birmingham (just 45 minutes away) and Manchester (1.5 hours away), getting to and from Telford is pleasingly convenient. And getting around the town itself could not be easier, thanks to the Arriva bus service. You can also travel to Shrewsbury, Wolverhampton and Bridgnorth on one of the regular Arriva bus routes.  

Shopping  

With over 160 exciting stores, cafes and restaurants, Telford Centre makes for a great day out. Telford shopping centre is one of the UK’s largest convered shopping malls, spanning 70 acres, comprising of more than 170 units and car parking for 3,600 vehicles.

Telford Centre boasts a delightful mix of fashion, beauty, homeware and food.  Popular high street stores include Marks & Spencer, Debenhams, House of Fraser and Primark.

Prefer to go shopping in a town with quaint historic buildings? Then travel a few miles down the M54 and you’ll find the county town of Shrewsbury. Here you’ll discover wonderful independent shops and unique market stalls.

Telford Town Park

The 450-acre Telford Town Park is the ideal destination for a relaxing day out. There are children’s play areas, nature trails, sites of special scientific interest, sports pitches, a lakeside amphitheatre and beautiful gardens. 
 
The Visitor Centre's cafe provides a takeaway service offering hot and cold drinks and snacks including freshly made sandwiches, cakes and children’s picnic boxes. And rest assured public toilets include baby changing and disabled facilities.

Eating & drinking  


At Southwater the menu caters for all tastes with a wide range of eateries for every occasion. Restaurants and cafés serve a mouth-watering selection of global cuisines including English, Indian, Thai, Japanese, Italian, Portuguese and Mexican. You can also enjoy dining both indoor and alfresco.  

Or head out of the town centre and into picturesque Ironbridge. Here you’ll discover a number of delightful cafes and pubs offering traditional and delicious comfort food. And herbivores need not fear as Eighty Six'd café is known for its wonderful selection of homemade veggie and vegan treats, both sweet and savoury. 

Nightlife 

Whilst Telford is not known for its nightlife, there are several options. The Ice Lounge Nightclub is around a mile outside of the town centre and on Fridays and Saturdays, it’s open until 6am! They play all genres of music and the drinks are cheap. Or you could try Club Crush and Oxygen, both located at Telford Shopping Centre.  


Alternatively, go large and delight in the many world-class clubs that Birmingham has to offer, just 45 minutes away!
