80% of our movers feel happy and settled in their new home
Homefinder UK has published its latest Moving Forward Index, highlighting the measurable impact of our national housing mobility scheme between 2022 and 2025.
Drawing on proprietary research from 115 households who accessed the scheme, the index demonstrates how voluntary out-of-area moves continue to deliver improved safety, stability and long-term wellbeing for households at risk of homelessness.

Key findings:
- 31% of movers with Homefinder UK have been living in temporary accommodation before moving
- 79% felt settled and happy in their new home and area
- 55% were homeless or at risk of homelessness before they moved
- 67% of movers agreed that moving out-of-borough had improved their lives
- 62% were rehoused within weeks or months
- 50% recorded improved mental health and emotional wellbeing
This has resulted in:
- Total UK local authority savings of £3million per year in temporary accommodation costs
- Local authority temporary housing savings of £14,000 per family or £8,000 per individual per year

The findings combine qualitative and quantitative insights to assess housing access, satisfaction levels, financial outcomes and overall quality of life. The research also compares outcomes with our 2020 study, showing how positive trends have been sustained and, in many cases, strengthened.
